How To Take Tests

  1. Get a good night's sleep.
  2. Get up early and have a light breakfast.
  3. Briefly review your notes prior to the exam (about one hour before if possible).
  4. Before beginning the exam, take a deep breath and relax.
  5. Scan the entire exam quickly and read any instructions that may be found throughout the exam.
  6. Reread the instructions carefully, determining exactly what is being asked.
  7. As you come to the questions, read each question and all the answers twice to find out what is being asked.
  8. Multiple-Choice Tests:
    a. Stick with your first answer -- it's usually correct. Only change if you know you made a mistake or if you find the correct answer somewhere later in the test.
    b. Look for answers being given away elsewhere in the test.
    c. If you don't know the answer, leave it and come back later.
    d. sometimes it's easier to get the correct answer by eliminating wrong answers.
    e. If at the end of the test you have ten questions you have no idea as to the answer, select one answer and put that for all ten questions. Statistically, you'll get more right this way.
    f. Don't leave multiple-choice questions blank. Take a guess unless you've been told earlier the test is weighted to penalize you for wrong answer.
