How To Read Your Science Text
- Read the introduction.
- Scan major headings. Try to understand the order in which the topics are
introduced.
- Go back to the first of the chapter. Read the first topic carefully.
- STOP. Ask yourself what you read. Vocalize this.
- If you cannot vocalize material in the topic, reread.
- After you are satisfied that you can state in your own words what is said
in the first topic, ask yourself questions, out loud, about the topic.
- Continue to the next topic.
- After completing all topics, see if you can summarize the entire chapter
in your own words.
- If there are questions at the end of the chapter, try answering without
referring to that section of the text.
- REMEMBER - READ FOR COMPREHENSION!
